PPI Claims – Have you been Mis-sold Payment Protection Insurance?

Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) is a product that has been available for a number of years. It has also been known as Account Cover, Payment Cover and Accident, Sickness and Unemployment Insurance (ASU). PPI policies are intended to protect your monthly payments such as mortgage payments and credit card bills, if you become ill, unable to work due to an accident, if you lose your job through no fault of your own, or if you die. In the event of a claim for one of the above reasons, your insurance company should cover your monthly payments or at least a percentage of them for a fixed period. PPI policies have been particularly popular with self-employed people because if they are unable to work they can’t rely on sick pay from work so need to be financially protected by an insurance policy. A lot of people with pre-existing medical conditions have also opted for PPI as it should cover their bills and payments if their condition prevents them from working.  PPI sounds like a sensible product for people such as these but in the last few years it has been mis-sold to a huge amount of people, many of whom are now making PPI claims to get back the money that they deserve.

PPI Claims – Don’t be a Victim

In the last few years mercenary financial advisers have sold unsuitable products to a multitude of people across Britain, affecting the financial security of thousands. Many who thought that PPI would give them peace of mind and protection against unforeseen circumstances, such as self-emplyed people or those with pre-existing medical conditions, later found out that the policy they were sold would not actually cover them if they did have to claim. Others were sold PPI without even knowing that they were purchasing it. It is not just finacial advisers who have unfairly profited from PPI though; many banks have mis-sold this insurance when it has been unsuitable and made enormous gains from doing so, as only around 10% of claims are ever paid.

If you think that you are one of the many people who have been duped by a bank or a financial adviser, there are steps you can take to reclaim your wasted money. There is a massive amount of information on the internet about PPI claims and an increasing number of specialist law firms who focus purely on PPI claims.
