North East homeowners warned of PPI phone scam

Homeowners in the north east of England are being warned about a new payment protection insurance telephone scam.

Durham Constabulary issued the warnings after being called out to a couple who had received bogus calls from a fraudster claiming he could reclaim £5000 for a mis sold payment protection insurance policy in exchange for an advanced charge of £200 in Ukash vouchers to cover administration costs.

According to police the charlatan is going under the name Gary Smith and they are urging anyone who receives a call to contact National Action on Fraud on 03001 232 040.

Payment protection insurance was mis sold to millions of customers who could not use, did not want or, in some cases, weren’t even aware they were paying for such a policy.

Since the original mis selling scandal came to light there has been nationwide coverage from multiple companies offering to help customers reclaim PPI. However it is vital for customers wishing to use the services of such a company not to fall foul of a hoaxer.

PPI Return is a division of Goldsmith Williams Solicitors, a firm with over 25 years experience in many areas of law. PPI Return has already recovered £32m in compensation for customers mis sold PPI. So if you’re thinking of making a claim, make sure you get help from one of the best in the business.
